GEORGETOWN BASEBALL POLICIES

Code of Conduct

Georgetown Baseball has implemented the following Sport Parent Code of Conduct for the important message it holds about the proper role of parents in supporting their child in sports.

Parents should read, understand and sign this form prior to their children participating in our league. Any parent guilty of improper conduct at any game or practice will be asked to leave the sports facility and may be suspended from the following game. Repeat violations may cause a multiple game suspension, or the season forfeiture of the privilege of attending all games in the discretion of the Georgetown Baseball Board.   By registering your child, you are agreeing that Georgetown Baseball has full authority to implement any discipline it deems necessary to protect its players, parents, coaches, opponents and officials.

By registering your child to participate in an athletics program in Georgetown, you are agreeing to abide by the following Parent Code of Conduct:

1. I will not force my child to participate in sports.

2. I will remember that children participate to have fun and that the game is for youth, not adults.

3. I will inform the coach of any physical disability or ailment that may affect the safety of my child or the safety of others.

4. I will learn the rules of the game and the policies of the league.

5. I (and my guests) will be a positive role model for my child and encourage sportsmanship by showing respect and courtesy, and by demonstrating positive support for all players, coaches, officials and spectators at every game, practice or other sporting event.

6. I (and my guests) will not engage in any kind of unsportsmanlike conduct with any official, coach, player, or parent such as booing and taunting; refusing to shake hands; or using profane language or gestures.

7. I will not encourage any behaviors or practices that would endanger the health and well-being of the players.

8. I will teach my child to play by the rules and to resolve conflicts without resorting to hostility or violence.

9. I will demand that my child treat other players, coaches, officials and spectators with respect regardless of race, creed, color, sex or ability.

10. I will teach my child that doing one’s best is more important than winning, so that my child will never feel defeated by the outcome of a game or his/her performance.

11. I will praise my child for competing fairly and trying hard, and make my child feel like a winner every time.

12. I will never ridicule or yell at my child or other participants for making a mistake or losing a competition. I will not post any derogatory remarks or commentary about the league, coaches, parents or players on any social media and I will not allow my child to do so.

13. I will emphasize skill development and practices and how they benefit my child over winning. I will also de-emphasize games and competition in the lower age groups.

14. I will promote the emotional and physical wellbeing of the players ahead of any personal desire I may have for my child to win.

15. I will respect the officials and their authority during games and I will not verbally or through gestures question or criticize an official’s call or decision even though I may disagree with it.

16. I will respect and support my child’s coach. If I have a concern I will not discuss it at the game field or in front of players or other parents, but will take the time to discuss it at an agreed upon time and location with a league representative present if necessary.

17. I will demand a sports environment for my child that is free from drugs, tobacco, and alcohol and I will refrain from their use at all sports events.

18. I will refrain from coaching my child or other players during games and practices “from the stands”, unless I am one of the official coaches of the team.

CONSENT TO MEDICAL TREATMENT (MINORS)

As parent or legal guardian of the above named player, I hereby give my consent for emergency medical care prescribed by a duly licensed Doctor of Medicine or Dentistry. This care may be given under whatever conditions are necessary to preserve life, limb, or well-being of my dependent.

CORI

All coaches, volunteers, and board members must submit to a criminal background check (CORI) and be approved by the Georgetown Athletic Association before beginning their volunteer work with Georgetown Baseball.

ELIGIBILITY

Residents of Georgetown and students who attend Georgetown Public Schools are eligible to register for Georgetown Baseball.  Players are only eligible for the following levels based on their school grade level.  Some players may be eligible for "play up opportunities" - see below.

Tee Ball (Pre-k and K)
Players are eligible for Tball if they currently attend kindergarten, or will be attending kindergarten in the fall.

Farm (1st-2nd Grade)

Minors (3rd-4th Grade)

Majors (5th-6th Grade)

Babe Ruth (7th-10th)

PLAY UP OPPORTUNITIES

Call-up Player Pool:  This is a group of players who have been identified as being able to compete at the next level (grade 2-Minors and grade 4-Majors).  The players are identified at the annual Georgetown Baseball Evaluation Day and will be "on call" should a team or teams need an extra player for a particular game  or for a certain portion of the season (due to injury, sickness, absence, etc.).  Call up players are not guaranteed to be called up for games and typically do not practice with the team at the upper level.  A rotation will be used to determine which player is called up for certain games and may take into account player availability/schedule/team need.

Permanent Play Up Players:  Depending on the roster needs at each level, a certain number of players may be drafted by the next level division (grade 2-Minors and grade 4-Majors) as permanent play up players.  This would happen in a situation where the number of players registered necessitates additional players to complete a roster to reach the target of 11 players per team.  Players are identified for this via their evaluation score from the March evaluation day results.

When available, these opportunities for players will offer them a taste of what the next level is like in terms of rules, competition, etc.  In some situations, there may be "permanent play up" players on each team for minors and/or majors and in other situations, players may be in a call up status (ie. coach would call if they were going to be short players and needed the player to suit up for a game).  

Either way, the call up and play up players' primary commitment is to their age-level team (grade 4- minors & grade 2-Farm) if there is a scheduling conflict.  If a player missed more than three (3) age-level games for any reason they will no longer be eligible for play up opportunities.  Play up players will be required to sign a contract agreeing to this policy prior to being selected to the play up team.

REFUND POLICY

All refunds have to be approved by the President or Treasurer of Georgetown Baseball and are subject to an administrative charge of $15.00.

REGISTRATION POLICY

Parents/Guardians must adhere to the following registration policy:

I, the parent/guardian of the registrant, a minor, agree that the registrant and I will abide by the rules of the GAA, its affiliated organizations and sponsors. Recognizing the possibility of physical injury associated with baseball and in consideration for the GAA accepting the registrant for its baseball programs and activities (the “Programs”), I hereby release, discharge and/or otherwise indemnify the GAA, its affiliated organization and sponsors, their employees and associated personnel, including the owners of the fields and facilities utilized for the Programs, against any claim by or on behalf of the registrant as a result of the registrant’s participation in the Programs and/or being transported to or from the same, which transportation I hereby authorize.
