Every Team Needs a Coach... or Two!
All of the coaches in GYSA are volunteers from Georgetown. Some are former or current players themselves and some have no prior soccer experience whatsoever. Regardless of their soccer background, our coaches have one very important thing in common – the desire to help their players broaden their horizons and to give them additional skills they wouldn’t get otherwise. While having a winning season is great, we consider it a bonus and not the main objective. Playing sports should be a positive experience, and it should be one that children look forward to each and every season.
How do you get a coaching assignment?
First we need to know that you want to coach. During open registration times, please register to be a coach using the Coach Registration. Open Coaching registrations will appear in the right column of this page. You will be asked a series of questions during the registration process so please submit as little or as much as you are comfortable with. We will use this information when we have multiple coaches looking to coach the same team. Credentials like Coaching License level, years of coaching experience, and other relevant experience will be part of the decision process.
Travel Team Formation
When you register to be a coach for a fall season, you may be asked to come to team formation night. We want you there so you can be part of the rostering of players on our higher level teams that play in Essex County. Once those teams have been created, if you registered to coach in the grade group, and your son or daughter made the higher level team, you may be assigned that coaching opportunity. If your child didn’t make the team, we will ask you to be part of the Draft for the remaining balanced teams.
In-town coaching
These coaches are usually our beginner level coaches so we welcome all parents to consider volunteering. GYSA makes resources available to you like equipment, practice plans and Licensing opportunities so you can get out there and have fun while not worrying about what to do with the kids. These Grade 2 teams are usually rostered by the Grade 2 Director and you would be assigned to your child’s team. Believe us, its a lot of fun!
