2022 Recipient of the Stephen Nazzaro Coaching Award - G6 Boys Coach - Steve Gillis!
Out of loss, great things can be born. This is what we had in mind when the GYSA Board of Directors decided to establish a coaching award in the name of our friend, board member and coach, Stephen Nazzaro.
On September 5, 2017 Stephen passed away leaving a loving family and soccer community stunned. His dedication to all young players, the sport of soccer and the town of Georgetown touched us all. We wish to honor his legacy by awarding a coach each spring, the Nazzaro Coach of the Year Award.
Stephen possessed a passion for life, family, the sport of soccer, and youth sports. He was kind, caring, positive, fair, and ethical as well as a model citizen. His passion for coaching children was monumental, and the smile he wore as he coached his children and the players on his team was infectious. To Stephen, fair play, equality and making sure every youth athlete made a difference during the game or a practice was more valuable than championships, trophies, standings, or wins. This annual award is given to an individual who exemplifies all the attributes that Steve brought to life and the field.
